ACPHS and SUNY Polytechnic Institute Announce New Partnership to Expand Access to High Quality Educational and Research Opportunities

July 13, 2020

ALBANY, NY — The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) and SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) are pleased to announce a new partnership that will expand access to high quality educational and research opportunities in the Capital District and Mohawk Valley Region of New York State. This joint endeavor is enhanced by the proximity of ACPHS’ Center for Biopharmaceutical Education and Training (CBET) which will be located at the same Albany NanoTech Complex alongside SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

CBET is ACPHS’ response to the rapidly growing biopharmaceutical field and the need for an educated workforce, which has recently been cited as the single largest constraint to growth in the biopharmaceutical industry. This new biopharmaceutical education and training center, the first to be created by a pharmacy college, will also provide customized workforce training for industry professionals looking to advance their skill sets and obtain hands-on experience with the latest biopharmaceutical technology.

ACPHS and SUNY Poly have a reciprocal program agreement that will enable students from both institutions to benefit from existing degree programs and will also collaborate to develop programs in biomanufacturing, bioengineering and bioprocess development that draw upon each other’s respective strengths in health sciences and nanoscale engineering.

“We’re very excited to partner with SUNY Polytechnic Institute because we’ll be able to use our complementary expertise to explore the interface between nanotechnology and biopharmaceuticals in a location that exemplifies the nexus of academia and industry,” said ACPHS President Dr. Greg Dewey.

“We welcome and eagerly anticipate working with the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences as they establish roots that will open the door to meaningful collaborations, especially those supporting unique student educational experiences at the intersection of important areas such as nanobioscience and biomanufacturing,” said SUNY Poly Interim President Dr. Grace Wang.

The joint educational and research programming will include cross-registration opportunities, collaborative degree programs, and the development of an accelerated BS/Master’s Degree in Advanced Biomanufacturing Technology.

This interdisciplinary approach will benefit pharmacy students, engineering students, and any student interested in pursuing a career in the biopharmaceutical industry. Both ACPHS and SUNY Poly are optimistic their joint educational and research programming will enhance recruitment, enrollment, and research opportunities.
